Karnak is not only the archaeological temple, but it is also the name of the place that started the “Egyptian Qonbela”. Karnak Pastry is a famous confectioner in Cairo and Giza. Established in 1952, it serves various types of sweets such as rice pudding, pudding, Umm Ali, Ashura, pumpkin, Basbousa, and Konafa, but it is most known for “Al-Qonbela”. Karnak was the first place to serve the Qonbela and Umm Ali with Nutella. Chef Karam Abdullah at the Karnak shop said "The Karnak shop in Sayeda Zainab is the foundation, and it developed in 2001 and is famous for the Qonbela. Chef Karam added that the shop was named after the Karnak temple because of the founder's great interest and fascination with Luxor and its monuments. “It consists of rice with milk, Kunafa, Basbousa, mango, strawberry, and cream, so the name Qonbela (in English: Bomb) was the only right naming for this dessert since it bombs you with a lot of desserts in one dish, we have more than 50 variations of this dessert." “In Umm Ali with Nutella, we put chocolate in the milk itself, and in another dessert called Borio, we add cream, so we have special varieties,'' added chef Karam. "The most important thing that distinguishes us in our work is the need for quality, sincerity, and honesty because whoever comes to us, we must keep their faith in our products," added chef Karam.
