In the form of light brown slices, the famous German “Doner” spiced meat gets stuffed in bun bread. This is how the servings of “Doner Konner” are presented on trays in El Akeela Street. The traditional German meat represents a delightful meal to the street’s regular diners. Islam Mohamed, branch manager at El Akeela street, said that doner is considered the most popular seasonal plate in Germany. Doner sandwiches are usually formed from spiced meat slices with marinade in a distinctive way, a quite similar way to “Shawerma”. Mohamed added that the process of cooking doner is unique where the slices are layered on a rotating spit and then grilled. The browned pieces are then chopped gradually, forming the doner, which is later stuffed with vegetables in sandwiches. Mohamed mentioned that sandwiches consist of sauces and dressings according to the customer’s preferences. There are other sauce choices like mustard and garlic dip. Prices are cost-friendly where it starting from 25 LE up to 66 LE. Mohamed declared that the branches of Doner Konner in Egypt are 100% owned by a joint Egyptian company. Each branch depends on a fully Egyptian workforce. There is an ongoing collaboration with the largest production company in Germany.
