Have you ever heard about those who use only one cup, plate, spoon, fork, knife, etc.? No surprise that most Egyptians do not know about the minimalist presence. YumReads dug to find out for the minimalists to explore how their kitchen lifestyle is especially since Egyptian traditions include buying a huge number of items in the kitchen and if any girl did not buy, it becomes a shame. “In fact, we have more than we need”, said Mona Montaser, a minimalist who mentioned that the women buy many kitchenware items when they get married, however, they will never need all of these items. That means the traditions are the main push towards buying such items, not the need for using them which caused the kitchen to be a “storage place” and a “museum”. Montaser explained that people stereotype the minimalists as they do this “to save money”, however, the reality is they buy a very expensive item when there is a need for it, but they buy only one item from each category. She explained that the minimalists believe that buying many items disturbs the person and reduces their energy highlighting that they understand very well that buying many items is not for their favor, but for the traders' favor. Madonna Youssef agreed with Mona Montaser and said that “the main goal is to enjoy life, not to own things”. Youssef told YumReads that when she decides to buy any kitchenware item, “I never buy a complete set”, however, she only buys two or three items according to her needs comparing just the situation to getting on a plane where you are requested to stick to specific bag weight. She explained that this lifestyle was inherited from her mother who taught her how to “upcycle” where she learned how to reuse her stuff remembered that one day she wanted a Christmas tree and her mother rejected and got the carrots branches and started upcycling them and created from it a Christmas tree and got other items already present at home and added them as the games in the tree. Madonna said that it is all about “conscious purchasing”, especially in kitchens where women buy many sets believing that each set will be used for a different purpose and this belief is wrong according to the minimalists' own points of view.
